Secret Weapon question

Hi
Pls have a look at the SW tied with scaffold knots-
10mm armor prus on HTP
I know splices are smoother but wanted to trial the idea like this first.
Any problems, concerns?

if it were me, I would use thimbles in each of the eyes to increase bend radius around the rings. And I would dress those scaffold knots up a bit more (get them all tight and snug)

In my opinion the bend radius is fine. The scaffolds are fine, but should be dressed up a bit. Personally I don't like a really long SW. Just long enough to tie a Distel.

This has been pretty darn slick for a secret weapon for myself. Just running with a 6 coil prussik.

I don't think JeffL's setup is a Secret Weapon. I don't see that it will fall off of the host line when the climbing line is pulled out.

It's not a SW.

See attachment.

I didn't realize the secret weapon was defined by the ability to pull it off the remote line. I thought it was just a device that allowed you to climb DdRT off SRT. Anyway Jeff L's model certainly looks like a weapon if not a secret weapon

nice work Jeff I may need to fashion myself one of those.

Thanks for backing me up Norm.

Excuse my ignorance I only thought that because I have seen a setup with a pulley attached to a handled ascender backed up with a hitch on top and the drt running through the pulley and this was noted as "the secret weapon"

They may have an answer, but i worked off my "floating anchor " a bunch this weekend, after pushing it up my access line with my top ascender. Then id just pull the complete system out as one piece when i was finished working off it.

Ohhhhhhh, now it makes sense. Ive run up a cinch a few times, only to later realize i can't retrieve it with the tail, since the midline knot would jam on ascenders/floating anchor.

"Technically" do you have to spike your line using the secret weapon, or no? Or do you just do a slip knot without clipping a biner in so it can be pulled out from the ground?

Very sweet idea.

The bend radius on the eye-to-pulley ends looks a little extreme.

What's the cord material ?

I believe the original SW was tied with the Marchard. When it was shown to me by Frank Chipps in 2002, we used it on both doubled line and on a single line ascent. Tied it with as many wraps as possible, and used the last little bit as a "handle" during the ascent.

The original, by John Ransom, was tied onto a doubled rope for secured footlock ascending. The SW was his anchor (instead of footlock prusik) with a climbing system installed in it. After ascending to his working position, John would tie a doubled slip knot beneath, with no biner, and start to prune. After reaching the ground, John would pull out the doubled slip knot and remove the SW as you would a ring & ring FS, so the ascending line could be removed.
