Seasonal Landscape Inspector thru 05/20/2012
STARTING SALARY: $15.16
JOB SUMMARY:
Perform the essential functions of the Seasonal Landscape Inspector position under the supervision of the Community Development Department. Conduct field inspections to ensure proper installation and maintenance of landscape material according to approved development plans and ordinances. Interpret plans, blueprints, and drawings and have a general knowledge of landscape and subdivision regulations, and zoning ordinances. Prepare written and verbal reports based on inspection data. Position is for the summer months, typically based on a 35 hour work week.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Primary responsibility will be to conduct landscape inspections of commercial and business developments and to update an inspection status database. These inspections may include site meetings with property managers and owners. Other duties include the monitoring of the Village's farmer's market held one day per week and assisting the Village landscape planners in research and design projects.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMETNS:
This position has regular exposure to inclement weather and temperature extremes for prolonged periods of time.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidate should have or be in the process or obtaining a Bachelor's Degree in Landscape Architecture or a closely related field. Must be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of plant material and landscape design. Must possess a valid driver’s license and provide his or her own transportation to and from inspection sites. Extensive knowledge of plant identification and plan reading/review is required. Computer data base skills and general knowledge of Adobe Photo Shop are desirable. Candidates should be detail oriented, self-motivated, and possess superior organization and writing skills. Personal vehicle required with mileage reimbursement. Prerequisite educational course work includes undergraduate level landscape architecture, horticulture or closely related field.
SELECTION PROCESS:
Candidate screening process may consist of an application review, skills testing, employability assessment, interviews, reference checks, and other job-related testing or verifications. Chosen candidates will be subject to a background and criminal history investigation, and qualifying pre-employment medical examination and drug screen.
