Scorpion

This picture was taken in Oaxaca, Mexico last week. The uncharacteristicly clean looking hand is mine, desperately trying to keep still.

Is this a Bark Scorpion, does anyone know?

I dont speak Spanish and the locals weren't too good at English. Although I did recognise a pretty irrate "Please you no move" from one of them.

Since returining home Ive read that theres well over 1000 deaths a year in Mexico from stings, yet only a handful in the U.S.

Anyone ever been stung over there?

No, but I did catch the clap once there. Call me crazy, but I'd imagine holding that critter ain't such a wise thing to do.

You're right, wisdom clearly didn't play a part.

A moment of foolishness, yet irresistable urge. They tantalise everyone from time to time.

I bet more than a few clap victims will attest to that reasoning also!

That's crazy that you picked that thing up!

It's great that you took a picture though, it will be nice to remember how close you potentially came to dying in Mexico..... Romantic

Do you have any other photos you can share about your south of the border trip?

The crock followed us for a while around a lagoon, he was about 13 ft. That was ok but the canoe was letting in water so I wasn't too happy about that. The local guide/oarsman seemed happy to play around a little more with the the smaller crocs but when this fella turned up he hauled [censored] back to shore.

The snake had already been shot when we found him. He was on a road/trackside way up into the mountains.

Lots of guns up there actually, just kids in camoflage but armed with some heavy duty $hit. Makes you feel pretty uneasy, these blockades were well off the beaten track, don't know who they were looking for!

I have other pictures but mostly of me holding in the gut.
There were plenty of incidents but never the camera at hand.
Great place to go, although a bit wild in parts.

The recent hurricanes disrupted both flights, so I was glad just to get home earlier.
