Not a crane question, so please post move accordingly if you please. Thought the inspections info would be similar-ish.

I'm interested in buying a guys '71 International Harvester with a huge platform lift on it. Its about 80', maybe 85' WH.

He got it at an auction for use on his property and to help some friends. Now he's done.

It was had its annual inspection 9 mo. before he bought it two years ago.

Does it need an inspection to be legally sold?
How does one get a bucket truck inspected?
What are some things to look out for?
Any advice is appreciated.
There is a local crane company that I'll contact tomorrow to pick their brains, but being Sunday, I'll have to wait, so was interested in asking you all for any input.

I would get it inspected for my sakes but there is no inspection required to sell it. Check with the manufacturer of the lift before hand to get the scoop on that particular model. IE: are there any known issues with this model, are parts available, what maintance needs done, etc.......

If you do not know about the lift, bring some one that does and have them look at it. It may save you thousands of dollars.

I've decided against buying it. Too big, not enough application.

For whatever the general information is worth to anyone else, maybe people's comments will help others.

Thanks.

Wet Cylinders , repacking is a pain , or if you have someone do it , it cost. Even if it is just a wiper seal.
kinked lines .
pull the hoses out of the boom
look for dry grease fittings , couplings
check the tension on the leveling cable in the boom .
Most important , make sure the truck runs , ain't no good unless you get it to the job.
Grease is a trucks best friend , it's the grease fitting you didn't know about that is gonna ruin your day.
