ruthless bidders

i know that im not a professional arborist, i mainly due deadwood and stump removal, as im just starting out and thats all i know, but today i bid a job and got told that he already had a guy to do the job for 25 a tree 6 oaks with storm damage, how do you guys complete with that

just to let everyone know, im not telling people im a arborist, i also inform them that i have no insurance, and if i dont believe i can do the job becouse of hazzards or my own un-understanding of the proper way to do a job i tell the customer that, and refer them to the only insured and bonded tree service we have in my part of southern missouri, and in return that guy is kinda teaching me climbing and cuting techniques and sends me the business that i can handle that he wouldnt do becouse of the customer not whanting to pay his cost.

i geuss what i realy should have asked in the first place was what other ways of advertising my self, are good for when you guys first started, i went to office max and had 500 flyers made up and spent 2 days handing them out door to door and have gotten 4 calls with only one amounting to me going and doing the work, any other ideas?

So Jakeleg, what you are saying is that YOU are doing the work that the qualified guy isn't doing, cause he charges TOO much?

IMO you are a big part of the underbidding problem, glad to see you get underbid! Smarts doesn't it???

That is the funniest avatar I think that I have ever seen!!!! EZ what the heck is wrong with you!!??

Jakeleg, you are a joke and an absolute complete goofoff imo. This site is devoted to helping people become better arborist and treemen. You are everything that "legit" and "qualified" tree guys are against. Get a life, get legal, and stop posting crap on this site.

Or get insurance. You're putting yourself, the clients and even the guy who is referring business to you at risk. It was the first thing I got when I moved down to NJ.

Southern Missouri, eh? Must be in my neck of the woods here somewhere. I'll keep an eye out, or at least refer him some work from folks who don't want their tree guy to have any insurance.
