roping

Grimper avec... = Climbing with... so climbing with two prussiks.

Interesting system for using two TIPs but too complex for my old head. I can see rigging that up for tricky access jobs though.

For wide canopies I keep a second split tail (biners, pulley and prussik) in my ditty bag for setting up a second TIP if I need it but I've gotten to where I rarely do that anymore... but I climb slow, the guys in that video were flying.

I love new systems though, thanks for sharing.

Hello everybody
Sorry for posting in the wrong place.
just wondering what do you think of the sistem shown.

We had a French Canadian or European French competitor use this system at the Aerial Rescue event in Nashville at the ITCC in 2005.
A bit unique. Used the ascent line, pulled the working end down to "split" the rope 50/50 on each side, then tied a hitch on each end and footlocked up, advancing each hitch with either hand.
After assessing the victim and starting to descend, I noticed there were no stopper knots on either end. One end was being used more than the other and the tail of the rope was fast approaching. The ground techs were slackin and didn't notice what could potentially happen, so I dropped my clipboard and went over and tied a figure 8 knot in both ends.
Very clever system. Just remember to use stopper knots.

i do the same system using a petzel dual single handled ascender and two taunt lines. works really well on pine trees, box elders, and hackberry if you use a tube cambium saver. i use an adjustable tether made out of a piece of arbor master with a blakes and a clove hitch.

From my point of view
The ascent with this sistem, take more energy to slide up two prussik.
Working with two end of rope around your feet isn't so confortable.

I have been playing with this system today and i really like it. I think in the video the guys are using one rope like Ddrt. It is basically the best of both worlds, one to one rope movement like srt, but with the ability to fine tune like Ddrt. I will have to try it working and see if I still like it. I also like the adjustable rope bridge on the climbers in the video, what are they using for that?

Is this a similar setup to the "M-technique", except that instead of terminating the climbing line at your saddle, you run it through a hitch?

And could you exchange the middle (third) prusik for a micro-pulley? Smoother movement on the line?

This concept makes my head hurt...

As Norm said, watch your rope ends and make sure the Prusik on your "Termination end" is symetrical.

This system eliminates the need for a seperate lanyard.

Works well for a pick off AR as well.
