roping down some silver maple the past 2 days

Subbing for my brother. We've been taking out this nearly dead silver maple for 2 days now...Don't ask why there wasn't a crane... /forum/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Yeah, where's the crane?

Nice job so far, but I wouldn't look forward to the last three cuts without a crane. It can be done, but not easily.

Too bad for the deck. I guess the hole will get filled in eventually? Another reason NOT to bulid a deck around a tree! Keep up the good work!

with a four hour min. on most crane rentals, the whole tree could have been
gone and you could be sitting in a warm pub or on another job

Don't deck around without a crane?

Nice job, but if one part, especially the final needs a crane, might as well use on whole job; so i look there first. But some would say i'm used to thinking backwierds, like i'm lysdexic or something!

But, then there is the whole Aristotlian logic to such patterns!

Or, something like that,

well we ended up not being able to use a crane. After speaking w/ 3 companies it was determined that a minimum 60 ton crane would be needed. Only access would have been across a brand new concrete driveway. No way! too much chance of cracking it.
Any how we ended up setting up scaffolding around the trunk. We then began disecting w/ the use of ms660, wedges, sledges, maul and a lot of man power. The trunk ended up taking just about a full day to get down. Although the crane might have made easier work if access could have been achieved; the $40 scaffolding rental was easier on the pocket book.

Anyway glad it's over. Made some pretty good $, took some pics, told some stories, nothing was broken, and no one was injured thus a total Success!
