RopeTek Raptor Demo Video

Nice video. I always enjoy how smooth they are. It would be nice having that but I'll have to wait till the price comes down.

This looks like the next great step forward in the industry!!
When the chain saw was invented do you think guys thought people who used them were "soft" or "sissies" ? I can hear it now!!

The first chainsaws were monsterously heavy, and any cutter in their right mind back then stuck it out with the axe and crosscut until the chainsaw became lighter. That's what the old timers said anyway.

I know a high tower lineman that frequently climbs 400' to do his work. Grahme McMahn uses a power ascender. I recall him saying one time. "If I got to go 200' to work I'm not going to be wore out when I get there."

Fantastic piece of gear eh! Two thoughts. I like that there is so little, if any bounce in the ascent. Is there load changes at the tip as a result of the winch and climber weight? Great for Geezer footlock! Thanks.

Nice vid Jerry. I dont get to climb many tall trees here in England but that thing appeals regardless. Many congratulations to the folks who produced it

If I stick around in this job I'll definitely be looking to buy one

Thanks, Reg. The Wraptor is a fine device for making long ascents fast,,, and easy. In my younger days I would have scoffed at the notion of using such a device, but today it's different.

Great job on the video, Ger.

As someone who's used this device, I'll attest that it's the cat's nuts for any ascent, even smaller ones. Paul's product is engineered solid, crafted excellently, and priced perfect.

Mr. Beranek, Great video as always. Seems like a great tool. Is there any danger of the ascent rope, life line, or tether coming in contact with the hot surfaces of the engine, such as the muffler?

The muffler is shielded. And so really the only way a rope could burn/melt against it would only come from laying on it for a period of time. Which for the ascent line is very unlikely because it is always feeding when under power and is the hottest it's going to get.

That said I do recall a time melting a chainsaw lanyard and having lost the saw when I went to tether it.

300lbs, are you really going to be in the tree if you weigh more than that?

I believe the manufacturer did this is for one good reason...say for some freak of nature time, the throttle gets stuck, you encounter and get the machine stuck under a limb, the machine stops moving yet continues to pull upwards. Would you want it to pull more, and start eating the rope, tearing the crap out of things. Or, just slip instead.

It sure is capable of more, but not the best idea for our industry use.

Gerald, looks like a fine piece of kit, probably the way we will all be doing it some day. The TIP on the Wraptor looks to create a very aggressive bend on the rope, I would probably connect a pully and tie into it. That being said do you think you could use this as a permanant TIP and once ascended work the whole tree? I have seen many people do this with ascenders on a single line, and when finished lower the system to the ground. If not there should be a warning because a bet a lot of people will try.

Just a thought, Brendan.

There is no reason to work off the system. It's not that more difficult to ride up to your tie in and just tie off there anyways.
