Take a look at this fiber configuration for satellites on a string.

I wonder if that type of fabric weaving would benefit our ropes. It seems like it would reduce the chance of rope breakage. Since breakage isn't a common thing the web type fabric might have some advantage. Could it make a rope that's smaller diameter and stronger? It strikes me that the web is much like a geodesic dome. Move one union and the whole structure absorbs the energy.

Go back to the Home page and look at their ideas. They already have tested the system on the Space Shuttle. The reel they used jammed though. I think they had 3 miles of line out. Now that's some trolling...
