Rope Thimbles

Hey Tree Pros,

what if any are the pros and cons of having an eye thimble placed into a new eye splice ? My thoughts are this, if you have an eye splice on the anchor, and then girth hitch it to a biner, wouldn't that weaken the line at that point more than just an eye that is thimbled??? /forum/images/graemlins/lam.gif

try doing a search of the archives. This has been discussed before.

The main disadvantage of a thimble is that it increases the likelyhood of crossloading.

Don't forget having to climb trees twice when the rope gets stuck while pulling it out (if you pull the wrong end).

Girth hitches or knots don't decrease the rope's effeciency enough to be a concern.

The reasons to use a thimble are more application related.
