Well ok then. Thanks.

Huh! everything I've been reading up to now pointed to the bird being jammed by pitch/accumulated crud etc. and not moving freely enough. That it wasn't the spring it was a simple maintenance problem. Maybe both or maybe a stronger spring gives people who don't do the maintenance better functionality until it becomes obvious a cleanup is needed?

Slightly off topic but I would ask the question why would you leave it connected to the rrp while working in the canopy? While I’m only in my second year I’m one of the new guys in the industry that read all the books from the legends. Started on a Blake’s before moving to a hitch climber. So while I am a beginner in tree work I am a personal trainer with an emphasis on sports medicine and how the body moves. Could the reason the OP keeps it connected is because of poor movement techniques in the canopy (may move well and efficiently) but spends too much time crouched down or leaning back where there is a constant engagement of his core so there is fatigue in just a few minutes. The way around that? Staying clipped in to the rrp to be able to rest your core muscles. I climb drt with a hitch climber and my old harness set up was the $50 notch floating dee and I have the srt Chestie because I would do the same thing on the middle ring of the hitch climber to give my core a rest. Now that I have upgraded to the Treemotion light it supports my core so much more that I don’t need to be connected to the hitch to rest. Btw I’m very fit and strong but have lower back injuries from wrestling in high school. So all this to say, are you strong (or endurance) enough to handle that work position without being connected to the rrp or could you work the tree in a way that doesn’t fatigue your core as much, do you need to hit the gym and have a focus on intrinsic core stabilization and endurance training. I will return back to the original thought, why did you like leaving it connected in the first place? Is there another means of achieving the same goal without being connected. I’m a beginner and just hoping a pro will chime in and hope this helps someone. Happy holidays!
