Rope Grapple?

I was asked by a friend (Vermeer Mechanic) who was asked by an aquaintance,(solo climber/rigger) about a remote controlled grapple that attached to lowering lines so he could rope limbs while he climbed. He doesn't want to come down and untie his rope. The only thing that I know of is the rig em and roll. Has anyone else heard of such an animal, or has anyone ever heard of a man bad enough to lift and lower a rig em and roll in the tree.

any grapple would be way too heavy I would think.

Maybe you could use Radio Controled Electronic Chokers though.

they use them in high-line logging sometimes.

I wonder how big the radio control part is though? the choker part doesn't look too big and i bet you could convert to rope.

shouldn't be much bigger than my crane radio control I suppose. And i keep it on my side while climbing.

Why not just send down a loop with the limb on a sling? When it gets to the ground, untie from up top and pull the rope through. I think this is what sean is talking about also, right?

that works well so long as you have enough rope and enough slings. if you don't have enough biners and slings you can run the rope through a good crotch on the branch being cut that you know will hold the rope when it is cut depending on how you set up the line

that's for those solo prune jobs we don't speak of. If it's a takedown and you don't have a guy on the ground to run ropes when you know you have to rig, something is very wrong...but I'd have to give you props for luggin the stuff up there.
