rope boss bags

Like Todd I have a Black Diamond haul sack this is large enough for me to keep a basic soft rope bag (that i don't mind chucking anywhere from any height) my harness, silky other bits and bobs plus helmet, its a super tough construction and not to fussy with a simple design.

I just bought the deluxe sherril bag the small one, first thing i'd like to say is top job on this new bag Tobe. I use it for my srt kit, it holds over 200ft of line easily plus all my other bits and bobs and suits the job perfectly.

I personally wouldn't like gear loops on the inside on this bag, it'll just mean anything i have on them will tangle in the line. I just have all my srt parts on top of the rope, i get them out and use what i need and keep what i don't need on the loops till its time to pack up to save losing them.

The only improvements i'd like is 2 of the bigger zipped pockets and do away with the small pocket, and possibly something to hold a throw cube as well.

My only concern is the yellow fabric doesn't look as heavy duty as the black, only time will tell.

Also the rope hole is next to useless I wouldn't pull my line from it in case it hockles and i end up pulling the bag up the tree, also its easier to flak the rope back in with the lid wide open, i'd rather it was one piece of water proof fabric!

All in all a great product at a very good price!

I broke a rib today! Actually, it didn't break, just ripped through the top of the fabric. I was putting a face cut in a large top and the notch hit the top of the bag and fell inside, but pulled the fabric enough to rip it.

I haven't tried the rope bags, but certainly have the folding cube. It's Boss.

Very sturdy and it includes every little thing to make it perfect for the intended use.

Very well thought out.

I probably would have roped out a notch of that size, avoiding all damage to my rope bag.

To each his own, I guess.

If it's not made to be thrown from the air, who cares how thin the crappy bag is!

It mind as well be made from toilet paper.

The ribs suck and this bag sucks and I wish I hadn't bought any of them.

Not well thought out at all, in my opinion.

I mind as well sell them to mothers for diaper bags.

they SUCK!

If your just going to store gear and ropes in them, why not use a cheap priced duffle bag like others have suggested?

A rope bag should be able to take some abuse, if not, why not just use any bag?

I think people are just not speaking up on this forum and admitting they thought rope bags should all be able to take a drop. Because every one I talk to locally can't believe that a rope bag isn't designed to be able to take dropping it.

I haven't had time to contact Sherrill and see if they will take back the ones I haven't opened yet.

I have to agree with Gerry on this one. The fold out throw cubes are awesome, but on the other hand I have to agree with X-man the rope boss bags suck. I had two and one lasted a week and a half and the other 1 month. I am picky and take care of equipment, but these bags could absolutely take 0 abuse. Not an opinion, but fact.

Who ever said easy was the father?

X, thanks for your input. It has saved me a couple bucks for sure. I bet my saved by the bell backpack could take a drop or two.

Oh Zack Morris. How you tease me.

Like i said only time will tell for me how long this bag will last, my first impressions are based on having the bag a few weeks. I don't know about you guys but they are priced very reasonably in the U.k when you compare them to similar products.
If anyone can point me in the direcction of a better arb specific bag at the same price that is better i'd be gratefull as i like my kit

The bag is by no means perfect just in my humble opinion not a bad effort at a mass produced bag specifically for arborist.

I do have concerns over longevity, and do wish for more pockets to store my srt bits and bobs.

Check out these kit bags love my Black Diamond touchstone for my climbing kit although its big, the stubby may better as a compact bag and if its anything like my other it should take drops with ease.

The first part of your statement is an assumption based upon my braggadocia. Anyone who knows me knows that I am always talking about climbing trees and how fun it is, but when I try to footlock 30 feet, I almost killed myself, and I cramped up, bad. I think it was the beers. But I usually need to drink them to get up the "courage". Probably constantly walking around in a state of dehydration.

So yeah, you are a better climber than I am. Don't believe the hype. A polesaw was the only way I made it in a tree.

On the whole fatherhood thing, let's not quibble about who's better than who. You have way more of a track record, so it's easy for you to claim victory. I have yet to rescue my boy from a fiery inferno, or push him out of the path of a charging rhino. At that point I may have to challenge you to a Father-Off.

For now, just rope out your big notch pieces, and we can move along with this boring thread about rope bags.

Constructive comments guys.

Any improvement ideas passed along "and implemented" will entitle first submitter to choice of free RopeBoss item.

Thanks.

I ordered the deluxe L with backpack kit, but found it was not quite large enough to fit my basic kit (120' rope, Pinnacle saddle, Petzl helmet and boots. I picked up the XL which is substantially larger than the L. The XL is almost as big as kit bag (military parachute bag, etc.). Plenty of space for what I needed. I also

My suggestions for improvements:
1) The clips of the backpack kit that attach to the bag are below par. The plastic keeper gate is not strong enough and often allows the backpack kit to come detached at one or more of the four attachment points. I think the clips themselves are high impact plastic. They do not seem to be a problem yet, but I thought a metal clip would be a little more durable.
2) The lower part of the backpack kit is a little narrow. At least it feels like that based on the attachment point for the lower straps that dig into my sides slightly. This might be an issue if I had to hump this bag for a distance. One idea would be to give the arrangement more of a true backpack hip belt treatment. Something where the load would be transferred to the hips and not the shoulders. If this were done, potentially consider an HDPE sheet to stiffen the back to isolate protrusions into the back and control barreling.
3) I'd like additional exterior pockets to store small hardware like tending pulley, biners, ascender, descender etc. It would give more organization options. Nothing too big but a way to separate some gear.
4) I'd vote for some internal loops, fabric or metal rings. Use em if you want em or leave em be. Nice to have a choice.
5) Maybe a little name/contents tag holder. Something that would let you identify specific bags among other Rope Boss bags.

Observations:
1) The rope access hole is a good idea but I don't know when I would ever use it.
2) The handsaw pouch is pretty much perfect.
3) Good stiffness for loading rope into bag.
4) Zippers are smooth and oversized. They seem durable for the long haul.
5) Top handle and side handle are perfect.
6) Material seems to be good quality.

I like the color, it's a shame it will be pretty dirtied up soon!

A tip that I read on a big wall [Yosemite-type] climbing page was to find some corrugated plastic to use as a siffener tube for the haul bag/pig. This might be enough to work for you.

I got one of the harness pouches, the one with the drawstring closure. I like it a lot! there are small pockets on the inside for my Leatherman and a small carb tuning screwdriver.

Today I had a plastic strip bust through the fabric...I never dropped mine out of a tree and I am also a student...so I have little use with it...defiantly a weak spot in the bag...Tobe are there any warrantys with this bad...because I just have part summer use on it...any way i can send it to you guys so you can make better ones? Or am I just lost with a busted bag?
