Ring to Pinto friction saver.....thoughts?

Tree Stuff built a couple of these for me and so far the guys I work with really like them. Its 3' long with a steel ring on one end and a DMM pinto on the other. It can be set and retrieved from the ground and also be used in the choker configuration. If I were to build them again I would have the ring side hand spliced for smoother retrieval. My biggest concern is that the steel ring may cause excessive wear on the sides of the pinto. What do you guys think?

I have a Tom Hoffman Usaver from treestuff and I run a big steel ring and a pinto daily. No troubles.
also it's worth it to buy a usaver. Far more versatile although I can appreciate the simplicity of your friction savers.

look up his videos of an alternate version using two small SMC(i think?) rings instead of the Pinto. if your ever interested in something similar in design, its worth messing around with i think.

i used to use a rough looking version of that set up you have shown, and as much as i did like it, i found i liked just using rings better instead of pulleys.

i like a little bit of friction at the TIP when Ddrt as it seems to be a little less effort hauling myself around. i think this was discussed on another thread a whiiiiile ago by the Yoyoman.

but that is a pretty sweet little set up

I too prefer ring style friction savers. Fimblesaver has been my go-to for Ddrt (quite bombproof and adjustable). The pulley is nice, but is a bit harder to hold yourself stable as you tend your slack. Nowadays, I am trying to save my elbows as much as possible.

I'm with you mike, my pulleysaver is pretty lonely. The pinto is a well crafted machine, but you will burn up hitch cord, Elbows and shoulders with so little friction at your TIP. I hear great things about fimblesaver

I have been using this for rigging for over a year with no damage to the pulley.

Im old school and am still using the Buckingham two ring/sewn webbing friction saver. I still like a little bit of friction in my TIP but not much. Didnt realize you were from Wrongmont there Levi. Who are ya workin for over there?

I really like the equalizing multi-anchor configurations with the usaver. You are climbing on all ring, but the pulley glides nicely to equalize the TIP. It is doubly secure and you can manipulate your tie in point to hold you where other friction savers cannot.

I do like the simplicity of a ring and ring, but the usaver is incredibly versatile - And you can always add a secret weapon instead of the pinto if you want more friction...

I prefer Longtuckey or Longmart. John I agree that being able to equalize the usaver is really cool. I definately need to check that thing out. Right now I am only really using a friction saver in small to medium trees anything large I run srt.

Lovelands trailer parks are much classier than those found in Wrongmont. Trust me I know. I live in the nicest double wide in Lovelands finest and most elagant trailer park. Where ya from Landon? My names Kenn Shawcroft.
