Rigging Rope

One advantage is being able to attach the porty to an adjacent tree, which can be a big plus for your groundie in certain circumstances. It's also normally lighter and much easier for one person to install.

Just figured since they have so many feet in length I'd keep em for tag lines and working on smaller jobs so I don't have to drag out the 200'ers. Nice sometimes using shorter ropes.

They are both servicable rig lines. I could use a 90' 3/4 just for blocking down big chunks.
The longer one sounds like the butt-end of load transfers to me.
I also already have piles of big to small and short to long dead eye slings, so I don't need any more...

Hi there SomethingWitty,
You sound like you know your way around rigging rope.
My dilemma, I am considering purchasing either Teufelberger Sirius 14mm bull rope or Samson stable braid 14mm bull rope, l hear much more positives about the Samson rope, but of course, the SAMSON is 120 euro more expensive where l come from, do you think it's worth splashing out the extra dosh on the Samson, any thoughts on the matter would be greatly appreciated by your good self,
or indeed any TreeBuzzer who care to chime in, thanks.

Sirius is a decent line. I don't think you would be disappointed in it. I too prefer Samson lines, but I understand price shopping.
Some people had issues with its loose jacket causing it to milk. I whipped both ends after letting it milk a little and cutting the excess jacket.

Thanks for your valuable input CutHighnLetFly.
Just another thought, l like a rope to feel girthy and weighty in hand ( for the relevant diameter of course),
as l have not the opportunity to visually inspect or handle these ropes. Would
you say that the Samson is heaver in hand and seems physically bigger by comparison,
( l have only video images to try and compare the two ropes and that's the impression l get ) This would probably be the tipping point for me and I would consider it worth spending the extra cash, plus I am not over the moon about the milking issue with the Sirius which has come up a fair bit,
Thanks for your help.

I can't say that I'm terribly well rounded when it comes to rigging lines. I've just tried basically everything that samson makes. (Arborplex, arbormaster, true blue, stable braid in various diameters, velocity, vortex, ect...)
I've never tried sirius. My local shop doesn't have it.
Stable braid milks. I love it anyway.

Thanks SomethingWitty for your view,
l guess l will have to get used to the milking and break out the whipping twine.
Still on the fence between the Samson and the Sirius though.

I just e-tape the ends for a few inches.
Takes re-taping every half year or so.

Edit:
Wait 120 euro?
Am I reading that right?

Yes you are.
61metres ( 200 ft ) Teufelberger Sirius 14mm 114 euro
61metres ( 200 ft ) Samson stable braid 14mm 234 euro
seeing it on paper, l ask myself, " Am I Mental" for even considering.
I still have a big hankering for the SAMSON SB, l wish someone would talk me out of it.
or hopefully talk me into it.

There is no way that I would think twice about the teufelberger rigging rope in that situation. I am sure it is great enough. I climb in one of their saddles and on one of their ropes and both are my favorite ever.
They're about the same price here, or at least close enough that I don't bother looking at the difference.
Climbing lines? I might give it a moment.
The little differences in rig ropes just don't have that much of an impact.

What country are you in?

The Emerald Isle, ( 40 shades of green ) Eire, lreland.
Yes excellent point, l do use Teufelberger CE lanyard and Pulley saver and are teriffic products no doubt. I did get estimates from two very reputable Arborist suppliers in the USA on price of my beloved Samson rope and shipping. The rope cost the equivalent of €180, the shipping was $100 and a customs charge of €46.
The second supplier was the same deal exept they asked $140 for shipping.
So that's out of the question, unless l move to North Carolina.
I will give the Sirius a shot and l am sure l won't be disappointed and I will save €120.

ThankQUOTE="CutHighnLetFly, post: 523334, member: 6626"]@Tree worker9 Sirius is a little more supple brand new, stable braid has a bit of a stiffer feel to it until it's broken in.
For that price difference I personally dont think you are doing yourself a disservice by going with the Sirius line[/QUOTE]

Thanks CutHighnLetFly,
l am content now to go for the Sirius after much consideration and deliberation, " l see the light ",
kudos to your good self and the TreeBuzzers who took the time to comment and advise.
Looking forward to lowering some timber, l will let you know how the " Sirius " preforms.

ThQUOTE="TimBr, post: 523383, member: 9161"]Hey, @Tree worker9! You are probably the first Tree Buzzer from Ireland! The first I recall, anyway.

It would be cool if you could post some photos of the scenery in your country. I hear that it is just beautiful.

I have to agree with you TimBr
" The Emerald of the Sea "
I will try to fashion something together and post.
