Rigging Gear

You need a porty.
For sure..was hoping to catch a deal on 1.on here so I'll hold out for a little while. I don't have Any side jobs coming up Anyway but I already have my slings and notch kraken rope.

Just need a porty like you said. Guess I'll start a thread. See if I have any luck.

The expiration date on a porty is non existent btw. We waz jus havin a lil fun
Wow shows you how little I know about rigging gear.. lol I'm starting to learn but I still haven't used 1 personally. I'm the tree cutter. But my groundie has a bit of experience with it. I liked it so much I need 1 for personal jobs.

But thanks for the heads up.. shows ya how gullible I am LMAO

Yes just a little ribbing on my part. I didn't mean anything by it.

Portyawraps are a must have tool IMO and as you grow and take on more complicated rigging you will find a need for one or two more. They are great tools and with a fiddle block set you can lift and tension lines easily.

No of course not. No harm no foul. It's just like messing with the new guy. And yeah I know what you mean I've seen a few videos where they used 1 on the ground and the climber used 1 as well pretty cool.

@Christrees have you read Jeff Jepson’s groundie book yet? Has some great insights about basic rigging, sweating lines etc.
No I haven't. I may have too. All my training is on the job experience by an old school climber. Ive been doing telework for 15 years but only climbing for a few years and like 7 or 8 years bucket experience. I am trying to learn the more technical side also. There's always two learn.

If anyone has any spare books I could really use them. I just don't have the money for them right now.

I need a porter wrap And sling first plus the first book I bought was something about splicing modern ropes. I need to learn to make a dead eye sling and a ultra sling.

But after that and when I have spare cash I'll try to pick some up I looked into it he has a few books. Plus I'm interested in training for the arborist certification. So looking for that book.

I have 2 porties. I havent listed them here. One is the smaller Stein and the other is the regular. I haven't really thought about prices but willing to talk and post pics if needed.

I'm looking at 1 tomorrow but I'm looking for a large porter wrap to be able to fit up to 3/4". I know the smaller stein in only 14mm but what about the regular what does that fit.? I'd look at a pic of that 1 if it fits 3/4. You can dm me a pic in case tomorrows deal falls threw?

One book I’d highly recommend is The Fundamentals of General Tree Work by Gerry Beranek. Luckily Patrick (Muggs) reprinted it maybe 18-24 months ago so it’s available again!! You can get it on Amazon for somewhere in the $30 range I believe.

Most of Dr Alex Shigo’s books are excellent as well. His Modern Arboriculture book is very informative. He’ll teach you biology and proper pruning practices.

For negative rigging bigger wood I am enjoying this configuration.
Bigger ring and sling with a smaller ring sling prussiced for adjustable size girth hitch
The sling can also be used in a retrievable configuration for overhead, exact same as adjustable climbing friction saver.

That plus your friction rings up top are enough to carefully rig big wood? Without a portawarp?

Ive seen people use something like this to use as a redirect to redirect the portawarp to a tree a little further away so the roper's not under the tree. For like deadwood trees.how they always break up.

I will use it at the bottom to redirect to a portawrap when vertical speedlining wood, but mostly use it aloft as my negative rigging anchor, or as an adjustable/retrievable overhead anchor.
