i got one of these when they came out, great idea of small bushing sheave on inside corner of krab.
But, besides lighter utility stuff with preferably it seems ~3/8" diameter line rather than our more standard 1/2". The 3 things i've used it for most are: redirection (this tolerates 1/2" best of 3) of line, quick/compact zrig, and Alpine Clutch/ Guarde Hitch (will hold a saw in 1/2" but not raise it easily; perhaps mostly because of not having matching krabs, as Clutch system works beter in 2 oval krabs; but not as good as pulley with cam/friction hitch "1 way clutch").
Some were kinda freaked by the wire gate as i remember, but i still think that a regular non-wire gate the size of the rest of the krab is the place to engrave. For the weakest point isn't the gate, but the thin 'wire' gate pins, that are pulled not inline but perpendicular. So, the thin pins pulled at most leveraged angle to me is the weakpoint of the open hook/gate side; not the 10x larger diameter gate itself that is pulled inline and not leveraged.... So as far as strength, wire gates are a fine way to save weight, or place it elsewhere in construction. This krab is also flatter than round to place most leverage against bending only on the axis it is needed; then that is structered with ribbing to further fortify; and give more of a raw mechanical look too i think. but all in all the wieght is distributed and shaped to where it would do the most good; in almost a bent I-Beam design, with added structral ribbing at key points.
Anyone else find good uses for this unique piece of gear?
