Daniel...from the beginning of TB Mark and I have expected that people who participate be responsible for what they say. TB is NOT grade school. Over the past ten years there have been plenty of things said that I would NOT tolerate in person. But...this is a format where more toleration of content and attitude have to be tolerated. If someone creates something they need to be responsible for what is created. There's no crying afterward.
I've heard criticism and praise for the moderation that Mark and I have done for years.
Since the beginning of the online arbo discussions many years ago I've seen a lot of moderation styles. A number of threads on the original ISA forum where deleted by someone in Champaign with no explanation. Besides the rough edges they deleted the core of a good conversation. After that, it was hard to trust the Wizard of ISA behind the curtain. On some forums the owner/mods are so heavy handed that if you don't cowtow and suck up to them you're banned and trashed. Neither of these happen at TB.
Years ago Turi Ryder had a drive time radio show in the Twin Cities. She had an attitude and mouth as big as Lake Superior. She would get callers on that would rant and rail at her about what she was saying. Her offer, which was free, was to have a producer meet with the caller at their house, come to the radio, and change the station. For free...
If you don't like the editorial stance that Mark and I take then change the station. Neither of us have ever taken on parenting roles for people on TB.
Also, no one has a clue what goes on behind the scenes...it seems like nothing, but that couldn't be further from the truth.
