replacement for BC1800??

Hi. I'm posting for a friend of mine. He has a Vermeer BC1800 that just recently had a drum failure. He is getting it fixed for the time being, but wants to replace in the future. What chipper would anyone recommend for replacing the BC1800 and what features would you recommend? He no longer wants a Vermeer due to some service issues so anything other than that. Any help would be very much appreciated.

I sell Terex/Woodsman. The 750HD would be where I'd start looking in that lineup. I still have access to one (only one) Tier 3 demo unit with a 140hp John Deere that is sold as new.

As the year progresses, pre Tier 4 Interim/Final machines will dry up fast.

Any 18" chipper, from any of the major manufacturers will outchip a Vermeer BC1800 any day of the week. We all have personal preferences, (I'm a big Morbark fan) but it's hard to go wrong with a Morbark, Bandit or Woodsman. Heard the big Coneheads/Dynamics are good too, but haven't played with 1 yet.

I once had a huge chipping job in Michigan that had to be finished pronto and our big equipment was tied up elsewhere. So I parked our Morbark 2400 (18", 188 hp Perkins) right alongside our much newer Vermeer BC2000 (20", 200 hp Cummins) and was able to easily feed both chippers with the knuckleboom loader on the Vermeer. That Morbark outchipped the Vermeer by MORE than 2:1. Always felt like there was a big difference, but watching it side by side, it was even more dramatic than I expected.

My vote is Morbark. There's a low hours dually 2400 for sale here: http://www.californiatreeequipment.com/. I know Matt occasionally posts here.

I owned a 2400 with the 200 hp Cummins. I operate at 8000' in elevation. That thing could fill my 15 cubic yard dump in an hour if loader fed, no problem. Doing Lodgepole pines (average 75' tall, 15" dia.) we filled our 20 yd dump 5 times in 10 hour day. Again loader feeding off a pile of decked trees with limbs.
