Removing a Row of Poplars

When you have those long skinny pieces tip tied try putting a notch toward the lowering point and have the groundie pull as you back cut. Pull the piece until the tip is under the lowering point then clear the butt. Way more control. Of course you will be limited by angle and how big of diameter the wood is.

Thanks for that. Everything was just on a porty so how would you be able to pull towards rigging point? I definitely could have pre-pensioned a bit with the "skinny" pieces with how wobbly these things are.

You could use a grcs or another type of lowering device. With those skinny pieces you shouldn't need a lowering device even because they will come off smooth with no shock load. You could even add friction to the lowering point even a steel carabiner helps instead of a pulley. But even with the portie you can just put it through the device with no wrap and be able to pull and create tension and have some friction to help with the lowering. For sure you have to gauge the weight if you aren't using any device. As with any technique start small to get a feel.

One guy pulls above porty other one tends slack. Even one guy can do it for small stuff. Or invest in a rignwrench I've only used mine once so far but it was worth the money

Rignwrench would have been perfect for this job. Totally forgot about them since I got my safebloc. I get lazy and tend to not use the safebloc for these things because of the set up time of each cut. Rignwrench is back on my order list. Thanks for the reminder
