Mark, it is a 4- phase. It was a planned outage. The crane operator was great. I asked questions like SWL of the slings he had, right off the top of his head he gave me the tensile and the SWL. He also had voice actavated communication devices that were small and velcroed to your arm. Fun Day

I do a bunch of removals for the line clearance guys. They may have the skills but they are not allowed to use any equipment except rope. That includes cranes.

Tod,
Were you tied into the crane for the entire climb?

You said it was a planned outage, do you mean they planned to kill the power so you could do this, or did this just happen to coincide w/ something else going on.
Looks like a fun one, What was the overall size/ Height/DBH?

Mark, what is this Rescue Team you speak of? The outage was planned just for the removal. I will not work that close to live wires (it was about 2' away. The tree was a Red Oak about 45"dbh, but about half of the top broke out years ago. The tree stood about 60' tall. The decay in the main stem forced me to stay tied into the crane for most of the work. I peiced out the small stuff, rigged out the wood, and made one cut with the crane under the decayed area. I did not have to remove the entire tree. The work order said to remove tree to below service wires.
