Redwood Forest & Trees

Just spent a few days in the redwoods. Slow motion exploring to see what my knee and ankle can handle. Had to wear a knee brace lately.

Here's an off the grid grove near Boyes Creek PCRSP

Recruited some help to go back and measure this redwood last Tuesday. Looks like it may be a new titan.

Only got it measured from the thin view. And need to measure from uphill to get ready for a frustum.

I knew this tree was big, but was surprised when we wrapped a tape on the base and found out its bigger than expected.

This tree is 3 & 1/2 FEET wider at dbh than the Stout Tree above.

An interesting stem or limb formation down in a notch valley below the ridge at Jedediah Smith

Paul Bunyan forgot to clean his hangers?

I like the stitched image, it just needed one more frame at the end for a better vanishing point.

Nice! Wish I could have been there to hike with you. Some great trees. Beautiful in fact. I'm surprised the parks took the barrier down around the Stout Tree. Looks to be getting a lot more foot traffic around its base. Can't be good for it.

Back in the mid 90's there was a formidable barrier of limbs stacked head high all around the Stout tree. Just to keep the foot traffic from compacting the soil around it. Now it's not there. I find that really odd.

Definitely.

Looking forward to wearing down some shoe soles and batteries with you.

Check out this guy who was in Simpson Reed. Pretty sure this was the start of my last time down. Nice to begin the few days with a smile.

Until like last spring, I hadn't taken photos of other folks much at all. Found many willing people to have their pics taken.

You're rich, Mario. Your collection of photographs is suburb. Only possible through miles and years of hiking through the woods.

It's one of the great things we have in common and share with others.

Who doesn't like big trees?

May have posted this one already the last month or two. Here's with a black border. Its a very unique looking coast redwood. 19 feet diameter too.

wow, I think you should go there with a saw and cut out an eye on the left, then it really would look like a skull face. cool.

There's a way without cutting.

How about an eye patch?

Here is a group I met in Prairie Creek. I stopped at a turnout to get some food for a moment. While strolling, one man says "hey, you're M. D. Vaden".

Met again later at the biker bar down the road in Orick for some food, killer ribs and Lost Coast Tangerine Wheat.

That's the tree at the South Fork Trail Head. You must have been on top of a car when you took that shot.

At the Tree House there's a post going on about a new web site disclosing the location of the Grove of Titans. Detailed maps of trails and exact locations of the trees.

I don't think that is a very cool thing to do. In fact the persons responsible even have a link to your site Mario.

What do you know about it?
