red oak problem

to the best of my knowledge, SOD has not made it here, yet. It sure has some of the symptoms. Last year there were two small cankers with black fluid (in small quantities) coming out. I hope and pray that is not the problem. Any one know of other vascular fungus oaks might get. There are what I have identified as golden scale on the tree and I read that is associated with Anthracnose...I didn't think I would see the wet, stain like marks on the stem and branches. Thanks!

many other species of phytophthora besides ramorum can infect.

not sure leaves show same disease as bark. have you scrubbed off the dead tissue around the lesions and magnified to get a closer look?

I think the leaves (and small twigs) are showing Anthracnose. There are small fruiting bodies on the twigs and around the leasions. I think you are right, not ramorum but likely Phytopthera. Thanks for the input, I'll get some new samples and put them under the microscope. I have a digital camera attachment so I should be able to post some neat pics!

SOD pops up in New England (through nursery stock) but the winters are too cold for it to over-winter. Not sure if that type of damage could occur in one season.
