recomend me a 7/16 line please

tachyon was leading the list for me to purchase to run SRT with, but then there's the new Imori out and about...what's up with that stuff?
maybe it is too fat to run with some of the hardware, but i am only using hitches and then ascenders that are perfectly happy with arborplex's 1/2in. profile anyhow, so i don't care about going any thinner, especially with me big hands.

oh, and gee whiz, does one even get an eye spliced in for an SRT rope? doesn't seem like you would unless you thought you would use the end for DdRT every now and again.
and on SRT rope, is longer better? i was thinking 150, but then i have a big sequoiadendron to work soon, so maybe 200 is the wise choice. though that is way bigger than i normally go. is having too much line ever a bummer? I kind like having a lot of tail available to "reserve" the previous TIP for when i return.

only a few climbs in and loving the SRT, F8 style - the power of the redirect upon redirect upon redirect is amazing. you sure can scrub a lot of unwanted forces from the tie in.

I like whatever I've used...mainly Tachyon and Blaze. I expecially like Bishop's price of 600 foot rolls of Blaze. Nick picks it up for me, splices it up, and sends it to me. Heck of a deal!

What say, Nick? I'm ready for another 600...and more AFC's as two have walked and one was stolen, along with another $8000 worth, mostly all camera gear......ouch

i got my SRT kit and now need a 7/16 line. i like a softer feel that's smooth and runs fast with a friction hitch. i was thinking blaze or bluemoon. whats good?

It sounds like you're ready for an access line. I've been told lately that the double braid arborist ropes do very poorly in shock loading tests with ascenders. Stuff like severing ropes, and other very bad things can happen. You should get a 10mm, static, core dependent kernmantle for your SRT access and the switch over to your other system. The nice thing about using two ropes is that you can leave all of your access gear on the access line and retrieve it from the ground.

Pete,

What ascenders are you using that are rated for half inch rope. Most ascenders are NOT rated for 13 +/- mmm rope diameters. It's important that rope tools are used according to their designed criteria.

I'd like to read more about the idea that double braid ropes being damaged or being incompatible with ascenders.

There are myths and misconceptions being spread without proper testing and understanding. Finding The Truth can be a real challenge.

I use a regular RADS setup with the large I'D. Works fine with 1/2" rope (arbormaster) as well as smaller diameter (lava). The ascender is just a regular one handed petzl and it seems to work fine as well but it is only used as a handhold and redirect.

Pete, If you like the larger ropes think about the large I'D.

Look on the sides of the ascenders to see the rope capacity.

Now, Petzl makes the Red I'd for ropes between 11.5 and 13 mm in diameter and the gold one for ropes between 10 and 11.5 mm in diameter.

Tom,

I use a newer lefty pantin, rated up to 1/2 in.

everything else for ascent is rope right now, though I am looking into buying a hand ascender soon, too - was going to go with a CMI or Petzl Ascension - this new twin CMI is interesting, but I don't know if I ascend enough doubled rope to make it worth it. That new little Kong Futura hand ascender looks nice and would be small on the belt, but it is only rated to 12.5 or something like that.

anyhow, both the Petzls and the CMI cammed acenders are currently rated to 1/2 inch. perhaps this was not always the case?

in other news, i have a blaze lanyard, it works fine for that but it would be too skinny for me to use as a climbing line unless I changed my style. But people love that stuff

Pete

I like the Blaze. John is right- it has a softer feel than many 11mm ropes. It splices nice, which will be good for when you're using it DRT and perhaps for attaching to a ground anchor, depending on your setup.

who is a dealer on here? i want to order a 200 foot hank with a sliced eye on one end.

[/ QUOTE ]I don't think you'd be wanting a "sliced" eye...LOL.

Nick is your man for any splicing needs...

But static line like that Pelican isn't splicable.
