RE Akimbo setting and rope

... Also found the Wallis slips and moves around because it doesn't like to seat inside the Akimbo connection..

I thought a Wallis was a good option on my un-gated Perfect O, and I may still go for that, but in the meantime, I'm using electrical tape to wrap around the biner on both sides of Akimbo. Here's a few other options from Wesspur. The Akimbo is still going to have some movement on the biner and that's OK with me.

Yeah it definitely did work, and kept it well contained. I had put the oil hose on first while waiting on a Wallis and a few other corner traps and after removing the hose and replacing with the Wallis I found personally I liked the immobility of the hose more.

I believe anything to keep the device or carabiner from cross loading will work well enough, just finesse and personal preference after that point

I'm just waiting for some genius to show us how to do it with an ordinary paper clip.

Honestly, in all the time that I have been using the gofundme Akimbo, I have not had the carabiner even think about cross loading. It works perfect just the way it comes.

I agree, but the instructions do recommend using something to avoid crossloading. Its probably not a big deal though.

I have been digging the Akimbo as well. Still playing around with some adjustments here and there but have been using B/3 on Yale 11.7 - (170lb no gear) with great success. I did make two little mods, putting rubber nubs on and a new tending point with stainless steel wire and a thimble. Stays nice and stiff this way and still opens/closes without issue

I did a fair amount of testing yesterday at work. Using an ABR HUT (bungee neck tether), it will not release the Akimbo if leaning back hard, even if in a full out dead man pose. With something like a chest harness without a bungee, the Akimbo will surely release. I see why Jamie designed the auto-release attachment point the way he did.

@JMerritt - Beautiful device. Well Done

I think you've defeated the quick release function and in doing so, you run the risk of putting downward pressure on the device and causing a potential free fall scenario if the lower bollard isn't fully engaged. On one of the Facebook Akimbo groups, they prohibit postings like yours, because it bypasses a necessary safety feature. I found a similar work-around using a particular accessory carabiner that won't pop out, and when I shared it, my esteemed colleagues totally ripped me a new one.

I strongly suggest you go back to using the Akimbo without this augmented modification. The idea that you need to be tethered in when not actively advancing is nicer, IMHO, because you don't need to manually release the tether and having to reconnect the tether when advancing is really not that much of a problem to overcome, once you get your groove on.

Re-read what i wrote in second paragraph. If anyone wants to take down the post, no problem.

I'd like to see some video clips showing what you mean. I saw the tending video Jaime did, but from a practical standpoint, I'm also curious to see specifically under what conditions the Akimbo releases, when applying downward pressure from the tether's connection point. Obviously RE is mitigating the problem with the wire gate tether hook and conversely the previous (use at your own risks) kick stater version used a shackle. Still, at least for the record, it'd be interesting to see where and how that breaking point occurs, in a safe and controlled manner.

I'm still playing around with settings too, Steve. My current rope is fairly broken in, mid way through its life.

One day my rope got real dirty and partially frozen and I had a hell of a time getting her to work proper. B/3 gives me a little creep when alot of rope is in the system. But...Just trying to break it all in right now. Don't give up steve : )
