rayco 1635 trac grinder - any good?

Pretty much have my search for a new grinder narrowed down to a rayco 1635 - either the trac unit or the super jr. Really like the specs on the trac machine and wondering if anyone has personal experience with one? thanks.

I don't have any experience with either of them, but by looking at them I would think the track machine would be better, yes you'll have to be careful not to tear up lawns, but I think maybe with the increased surface area on the ground the machine will be less likely to be pulled into the stump by the cutter head allowing much more productive and controlled cuts.

We considered the Rayco tracked unit for a small stumper and felt it was too top heavy. We bought the Toro stx 26 and have been very pleased with it after hundreds of stumps. 20 minute tooth surface chance with 3 surfaces. Fast ground speed, no belts easy controls etc.

Whichever you buy I would go with the tracks like said by Classic.

I also really like the short length of the trac 1635. Only 91 inches! I can load it sideways on either my 1-ton or behind the cab of my chip truck - both trucks are currently set up to haul a mini skid and would work great to also haul the trac grinder. The grinders over 96" long would be too long to do that.

I have often wondered why they haven't made stump grinders all wheel drive and articulated steer. The articulated steering would give additional swing to the grind, it would be easy on turf, and much better than the steering that is available now.
