Prusik cord rating

I'm trying to find out the accepted rule of thumb for prusik cord tensile strength rating. I've heard and seen different numbers.

Would a 8mm dynamic prusik cord @13kn/2871 lbf with dbl fisherman terminated on both ends to 'biner using vt. style hitches meet competition rules.

Seems to me like it should be allowed. The strength is plenty high. Is this for competition purposes? I used a distel on a modified footlock setup in my last comp. Judges were fine w/ it. Vt thats' another story, i guess it will depend on how old school the judges are.

Hi Sawdust,
This years rules state Prusik rope must meet the minimum strength for climbing lines. So I guess it won't be accepted at Comp's.Depends how you interept the rules.

That's silly to expect climbers to adhere to a 5400lb minimum for prusik cord. Now, if they acknoledge that it's a loop and allow the cord strength to be half of that, then it's reasonable. For my friction hitches, I use a lot of different things all the time, but I try to keep it above 2700 MBS. It's easy to find appropriate cordage above that strength, but doubling it....that'd be tough!

That would make no sense, that would disallow all cord except say ultratech, and some other hi-tech cords. If this was true i doubt sherrill would still be selling its' polyester cord.
Gord did you experience this at TCC..?

Its just what it states in the rules:It myths me as much as you.
If you want a full of explaination of how this is going to be inforced you would have to talk to ITCC Rule commitee...
