Prototype of the hook for Silky pole saws

UM: Kogyo, Inc. (aka Silky Japan), the manufacturer of Silky hand and pole saw, is developing a universal hook for Silky Hayauchi, Hayate and Longboy pole saws series. Attached are the pictures of a hook’s prototype for Silky pole saws.

Please take a moment to look at the pictures and provide your thoughts about the hook’s shape, utility, practical usage, etc. Your professional arborist feedback will be very helpful to finish the design and make final changes if necessary.

I like it. Is the hole in the little creatures body large enough to attache a carabiner? Also wondering if its nose should be tilted down a little more, so as to keep the saw hanging if it were to swing. Looks great and will definitly be handy. Could use one. When will they be available.

I like the hole in the hook, nice idea.

The radius of the hook seems a bit wrong. It seems like that would bump off a limb too easy.

I agree. Maybe a larger radius undercut on the hook side with a more accute end point. It almost looks too strong in relation to the rest of the saw. I have a Hayouchi and I don't want my guys to be too tempted to use it for pulling down hangers or who knows what else.

I like the idea. Add it to the longboy too! I would say that the curve could be deeper to avoid being knocked off of a limb and provide a better grab for the pulling of hanging branches (hangers). I dfo like the hole in it. It could make for a safer attachment to a carabiner on the harness if needed.

I use a 9' Zubat pole saw and I'd like to see a hook for this model. Ultimately, the 9' Zubat in a fine tooth (for those extra fine detail prunings), a fold-up blade (no scabbard to deal with), and... GASP!... a folding hook (to reach into those tight spots). We've put men on the moon, I know we can design a light-weight, fine-toothed, folding blade, folding hook, pole saw!

SilkyUSA would like to thank you for your help. Several months ago we asked for your professional opinion on development of Hook Fox that can fit to Hayate, Hayauchi, and Longboy pole saw and you answered. The manufacture in Japan took your advice and in appreciation they would like to offer you a free Hook Fox if you participated in the discussion of this thread. Come see us in Baltimore at the Tree Care Industry Expo, booth # 848 to collect your free Hook Fox.

Fox,
I most unfortunatly will not be attending TCI but would very much like the hook. I will pay for shipping if needed.
Thanks
Bruce

There was a prototype of the hook at the ISA conference. Silky did a wonderful job of incorporating many of the suggestions. The result is a great looking addition to a tool that sets a high mark for performance.

How cool is this thread!!! It's nice to see the manufacturers coming to us, and actually getting good advice and initiating a change based on TreeBuzz's suggestions!
