Thanks to the peanut gallery.

Austin is the kind of place people are moving TO these days. Austin has one of the best economies in Texas, and Texas one of the best in the US. I think they will get some people to apply to this posting who meet most of or all of their minimum qualifications.

I have pretty much all of the qualifications listed, and I have run a municipal tree planting program, supervising volunteers and contractors in some super high pressure time-sensitive environments. The program that I ran was called the Providence Neighborhood Planting Program, and it was the first public/private partnership of it's kind in the country as far as I know, started in 1989. Casey Trees in Washington, DC visited us to model their program.

I was just pointing out that you are asking a lot for the pay you are offering. I tried to have a sense of humor about it. Sorry if that qualifies as 'peanut gallery.' In my opinion you are shooting for the stars... There's nothing wrong with that, though.

Best of luck in the search, it seems like you guys are doing good things.

-Tom

(PS - I love Austin... Visited some friends in Round Rock a few years ago and I can say unequivocally that the place is super cool!)

I used to work at www.treepeople.org which I believe is very similar to Treefolks. If you think about it, a young arborist will make less than climbing and dragging brush for most companies and there are typically no benefits and NEVER air conditioning.

They could have a fun, much more relaxing and safer job that gives them warm fuzzies that will help them sleep at night. A tree-worker will sleep better because they are so freakin tired from working in that Austin heat! But thats another story.

I bet theyll fill this position very quick. Keith, talk to the higher ups and just make it a full time position. That will have much more appeal to applicants and it's only 1 day more per week!

What other benefits do you offer? Medical, dental, 401k, etc?
