Problems With My Croll Ascender

I've been using my Croll for awhile now, and love it, but I'm having a problem when I switch from SRT to my Dbld line.

I'm having a hard time taking off the Croll from the line. It doesn't seem to want to dettach. Is their a special way to release the Croll that I'm missing? I'm not putting any weight on it, at least I don't think so.

Any suggestions?

As you transfer your weight to dbrt don't let the srt line run through the croll, this extra unweighted line above the croll can be used to release it, as the croll needs a slight upward motion to detach.

hey chris, im having the same problem, how old is your croll? the new ones teeth are a bit sharp and takes a little extra effort to get off, try pulling the line from underneith the croll to release some tension, that should enable the gate to be opened

when you are using it for srt, the croll takes the brunt of most of the repelling as far as holding your weight goes, so even though you think you are off the line all the way with your croll you arent, think if it this way, when you reach a crotch and stand all the way up and safety in, your croll has advanced with you, as have your foot ascender and hand ascenders, when you go to release the rope from the foot ascender you have to lift your foot up to you to draw slack, then release, same with the hand ascenders, but your croll never gets this opportunity because of its location and how much of a load it had been supporting

in the future, try to stay a bit hunched down at first when reaching your safety tie in spot, then employ your lanyard and deactivate your croll by slowly standing up and releasing some of the tension placed on the croll

hope this helped brother, when the croll gets used a bit more it should become a bit easier to disengage, but honestly, isnt it nicer to have a hard time getting it off then if it was too easy to take off?

Hey Marc, mine is brand new, and that's how I've been releasing it by pulling on the line underneath the Croll. I just didn't know if there was a more efficient way.

I'm still working on my SRT Frog system, but man is that a great way to ascend the tree. Today, I'm going down to Essex MA for the Arbo Party and watch Mark Chisholm put on a footlocking demo, but after learning the SRT, I don't think that I'll be footlocking anymore.

Thanks everyone for your help with my Croll issue.

I forgot, another thing that helps is to slacken the Torse or Secur. I use a bungee strop around my neck so I just flip it over my head. Now when you stand on your footloop, the Croll doesn't follow up the rope immediately. Much easier!
