We purchased Two Stihl 461 s last fall and have had issues with both.
With the first saw we found that some major overheating had occurred somehow with the chain brake assembly. The result was heavy bluing of metal components and melted plastic on that side of the saw.The original diagnosis given was as operator error and they said they suspected that our operator was running the saw with the chain brake on. I was not in agreement as all of our operators are extremely experienced .We negotiated a repair where parts were covered but we paid the labor.
I dropped the 2nd saw off at the repair shop last week after personally running the saw on a storm felled oak when . The side plate got too hot to touch . I allowed the saw to cool off enough to pull the plate and found the sprocket had significant bluing.
Does anyone else run these saws? And have you had any similar problems ?
