Premium Ropes Splicing Instructions

Just wondering if anyone has used Premium Ropes splicing instructions or if anyone's tested their reliability. I'm mostly concerned about their "polyester rope with parallel fibers in the core" instructions.

That’s a interesting method of splicing. Brion Toss’s method is just a fid length of bury, with the cover attached also. This one only has a bury of 2-4” instead.

I realize this response does not directly address the type of rope you are interested in, but I went to the Premium Rope website this morning and watched their video on how to do a double braid splice in polyester rope. Hated it for so many reasons. If you follow their example with a tightly braided arborist rope you will almost certainly fail, and even if you succeed your splice will look like a big lump instead of a smooth taper. My suggestion is to follow the Class 1 double-braid instructions from Samson or the specific manufacturer's instructions that are out there for ropes like Tachyon, Tendril, Scion, etc. None of these ropes are particularly difficult to splice, but there are some basic things you have to do to create a nice, tapered splice, and the Premium Ropes example is not helpful!

The core isn’t braided, so double braid instructions might not work. Premium doesn’t make a rope with that type of construction and refer to the instructions in the book Splicing Modern Ropes.
New England Ropes’ StaSet X has the same construction, their splicing directions would probably be the best one to use.

Yeah, I knew it was not the same splice, I was just bitching about how bad it was. Another option for parallel core ropes would be the Marlowbraid splices for ropes like Vega that we have talked about before. I have done several of them and they work ok. But they are a pain in the butt, at least for Vega. These splices are described on the Marlow website.
