I used to be the first in line to try every new piece of gear out on the market. Now I wait until everyone else tries it, I talk to my friends who get to try early versions of it, and once again wait. It doesn’t take long for the patience to pay off and one pops up on Treebay. Inevitably I bite and buy it. I usually try it a few times and then it sits in a tote with all of its other friends like a character on Toy Story. Just waiting until I put them all back up on Treebay or until one of my employees wants to try it.
The consistency and reliability of a Zigzag is hard to beat IMO. It is like a Toyota Camry of the tree climbing world. It just works. Is it fast? No. Is it sexy? No. It is a Camry. Boring as fuck and reliable as your wife nagging you to do that thing you never do or to stop doing that thing you always do. You want a Porsche? Buy a Lockjack or a Rope Runner. But you know they will get you in trouble or won’t be as reliable as the old Camry. A hitch is better you say? What? A hitch is like an old American beater. It is reliable sometimes. And then it rains or you get a dab of pitch on your rope and everything goes to hell. You can’t go up, you can’t go down, tending slack is a nightmare. You have to tie a different knot because the one you always use in perfect conditions doesn’t work now. No thanks.
I’ll stick to my old boring reliable Zigzag Camry. Unless you have a Throttle for $300. Then I’m your guy.
