Practice what you preach

My newbie pointed out something to me today that I hadn't really thought of. Today was his first day so we were going through the do's and dont's with the chipper. I was sure to let him know that you need to feed from the side to avoid getting snagged and dragged. After the first limbs were going through I walked up, right in front, pushed in some brush like I have done before, no big deal? The Newbie stopped me, and asked why it was so important for him to stay out of harms way and not me. Good point huh? Safety starts with us, if it's important to teach people, it's important for us to do it.

I woulda jap slapped him, lol.

That is the best post I've ever seen. We must practice what we preach because people can only follow where we lead not what we say. I mean who listens to a hypocrite. No one thats who!!!

Good point. Just think of all the rules we break daily. Standing in front of the feed tray is one, just like one handing a chainsaw. All things we should not do, but it happens.

Great post you should give the new guy a raise!!!

I have run in to the same thing. If you teach it there must be a reason. A new person can be a good reminder.

It would be nice to keep him around, but he's already enlisted and will be gone in 6 months. So far he's been a great worker and hasn't complained about humpin' brush all day.
