Positioner

Watch the first couple minutes maybe you will see the advantage of the pulley.

Crazy, did you have to show me that video again, now I want to buy another. (Just kidding, one is more than enough)

Kevin, I understand you not needing a pulley and getting by with a very short lanyard, you just climb where you want with pure talent, I have to "pulley" my self there.

While we are on this topic and I eluded to it before but does anyone see the point in this swivel configuration. It seems like a waste of a good swivel AND pulley there.

I go further against the minimalist grain and use a Hitch Climber pulley. I use my lanyard center attached quite a bit, the HC is super easy to clip the other end of the lanyard into when I'm in tight spots and don't want any fuss clipping in or unclipping the lanyard.

This photo is from last winter when I'd just built it, looks a bit more beat up now. I made a cheapo prusik ring attachment for anchoring the lanyard SRT, built with NE Ropes tech cord:

This setup is simple and efficient enough. Oh...and not pricey.

I've been using it for years and I can't see any reason to change in order to gain minimal efficiency.

The question usually comes up...so I'll answer. No, the stitched eye on the KMIII is NOT life support. All I did was cut out the core and stitch the eye to keep that end from dangling. There's a stopper just upstream from the stitched eye.

It can be a real fine line or (excuse the pun) LONG line, between a lanyard, position-er and mini climbing system.

I made this up with the intention of using it as a mini climbing system when I travel. 50' of 10mm Beeline for a climb line (probably not ANSI for a climb line so call it a position-er there) but it will do everything my CELanyard will do for much less dinero. Used the Petzl Ultra Legere Pulley Sheaves to put some real power in the 6:1 ascent. 6mm prusik with thimble, 8mm e2e.

Extra Long Lanyard

Fernhorn,

Seems like a "heavy" choice. What are the pros?

I like how I can use my lanyard as pretty much a full on climbing system with the HH. I can choke the spar attached directly from my bridge ring, DDRT, SRT, Flipline... pretty much everything in one package. The weight hasn't been a factor to me. I normally use 2 lanyards. The one with the HH is the longest for max versatility.

Fernhorn,

So, correct me if I am wrong, you use your lanyard in a single line positioning configuration a great majority of the time? However, you like the ability of your lanyard to go STL/DbRT easily?

When your lanyard is in SLT mode, what configuration is your climbing system in SRT/DbRT/other?

Just trying to lay it all out:)

Tony,

Generally I climb DDRT on a floating false crotch. Say I get to my DDRT tie in point on my main line then want to go above that. I set my lanyard through a higher crotch then choke it to the trunk at my current height, then SRT to the higher point with my pantin. This would be just one circumstance. I also like the action of it when I'm choking the spar in front of me with my lanyard attached to my bridge. Just having the HH on a long lanyard in the tree gives me freedom to pretty much do whatever I can come up with.
