Position Title: Forest Economics Extension Educator (#19683)
(Fixed Term Position for one year)

Brief Summary of Duties: The Extension Educator will function as a member of the extension team in the base county and other counties served. Assigned program responsibilities will be in the area of forest finance, economic, and investment analysis. The person will cooperate with other staff to provide a comprehensive extension program in the aforementioned counties. In carrying out these duties, the individual is responsible to the County Extension Director and the Central Regional Director.

Specific Program Responsibilities:

1. The forest economics extension educator will develop, plan, implement and evaluate extension education programming based on identified needs covering a range of forest economic topics, including but not limited to: business entity structure and estate planning for private woodlot owners, tax implications of forest harvest, forest investment analysis, forest product valuations, and municipal code and zoning regulations.

2. The forest economics extension educator will also facilitate, to the extent possible, programming in related natural resource areas, including water resources and wildlife.

3. The multi-county agent will develop and facilitate an advisory committee to help direct the extension forest economics program for suggested audiences: forest landowners, commercial agricultural lenders, financial planning professionals, wood products businesses, public school teachers, elected municipal officials and the general public. The multi-county agent is expected to work collaboratively with other agents, extension specialists and university faculty.

4. Serve as a liaison between cooperative extension and relevant agencies and organizations such as forest product producers, secondary wood producers, county government agencies, and other public and private organizations.

5. Maintain open communications and cooperation with staff, extension boards on program development, implementation, and evaluation. Cooperate with extension staff within the counties to develop a comprehensive extension program that is an integrated part of the total extension program.

6. Effectively use mass media, technology, workshops, and personal contacts to disseminate program information.

7. Collaborate when appropriate with clientele and faculty in the College of Agricultural Sciences, as well as other colleges, institutions of higher education, and outreach partners, to develop and deliver educational programs.

8. Develop annual action plan and report through CASPAR.

9. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the County Extension Director and/or Regional Director

10. Ensure compliance with Affirmative Action Plan. Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree in forestry, wood products, or related area is required. Additionally, MBA or MS in economics or finance is highly preferred. Demonstrable interest and skill in preparing and delivering non-formal educational programs to adult audiences; and demonstrable skills and interest in working collaboratively to achieve planned outcome are expected.

Rank/Salary: Salary and educator rank commensurate with education, training and experience.
