A buddy gave me this, the label said it is for splitting firewood safely. Dang good bucking tool! This ain't no Garage; No cuss word intended!

Definitely has made a differance on a few jobs, especially not dulling saw. It works well with a regular wedge too for bucking larger stuff. The plastic wedge falls down deeper automatically in vertical cuts, allowing easier use of the Pogo, or holding place as you take the Pogo to another angle or even cut.

Playing with this extra force, to the same task; has even sharpened up some observations on wedging technique. The Pogo also reaches into the cut, to keep driving wedge deeper, where you usually wouldn't be able to reach a wedge. The Wedge is thicker, giving more pressure at a given position too.

Can't find out were they ordered it from, but he got it from someone that paid ~$38 for it. i'm thinking it is worth that.

i've learned to understand a lot in bucking wood, about issuing force to deal with present forces. In-tree this is rigging etc.; but all the same, loading your effort into best/easiest strategy for success against the odds. After all, trees are the largest life my lil'butt can walk up to pick on! JP's just next in line!

In any wedging, the deeper the face, the less leverage the wedge has; in bucking there is no face, so pure maximum leverage can be worked on the outer perimeter. Direction of effort (or loading) is always so important. Direction is the first part of force, for there can be no force without a direction( i think i got that from Joe) the force is expressed in etc.

i think maximizing wedge influence basically takes carving out to a minimal plot of fiber for the wedge to work against, that is also within the focused direction of the wedge, as well as most levraged position for the wedge to apply to. Also when you can, not working directly agianst gravity on it's stronges axis of pull (vertically).

Or, something like that,

if anyone is interested in a Pogo splitter, you can order them for under $20 bucks + shipping on ebay. Don't search for "Pogo" because you won't find it. Try searching for ebay store named "Anaconda Tools". I would give a link but rules here say no comercial solicitation allowed so I'll just point out where to get one of these great pogo splitters and hope someone finds this info useful. /forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif
