The only good things about this job were the ability to use a bucket and tractor and to be able to drop some of the trunk. But then the stump had to be ground along with the huge root mound that it sat on.

Hi Mark,Was the power turnerd off when you did the work,Here in england we have to request an outage if the tree is in/above the live zone of the conductors.I work in utility & have only used a bucket a few times,the rest having to do it the hard way Rope & Harness.
No not here. The power co.s don't want to interruptpower- it means less $$$. They will usually do it in tricky scenarios since the last thing they want is a fatality, but it doesn't happen too often.
