Pillow Talk

Tight piriformis muscle compressing sciatic nerve. Self diagnosed through the internet.
No offense, but the internet has given many folks an incorrect diagnoses of many things. I'm sure that felt like the correct diagnosis to you, and I am glad you got relief, but you don't know what you don't know.

Ironically, many of my family who are MDs and PAs still like to go to Chiropractors, and I agree with the notion of starting with the least invasive strategy first, and working up from there. Never let them cut you open, unless it's to save your life.

There have been more than a few people who've sustained lifelong injuries from chiropractic adjustments, and been sued for it. I maintain that a Physical Therapist or Occupational Therapist would be a better place to start. Shit, I would even go with a Massage Therapist before a Chiro.

I don"t doubt your muscle was tight, but how would stretching and massage not get you the same result with put the risk of spinal injury?

One can train themselves to become a nose breather through breath work. Put in the time and you will reap the rewards.
I'm a big believer in breath work. Do you have any good places to start for this particular avenue? My wife would be ecstatic.

I didn't want to be the first to say it, but chiropractors are quacks. I would maybe trust one that was also an MD, but I haven't met one with legitimate credentials. The more you look into it, the clearer it becomes, but I agree that if it makes you feel good, you do you. What you want is a physical therapist, or something to that effect, like an occupational therapist. I don't wanna start a fight here, as I know many cherish their Chiro. I did for 25 years, until I started onvestigating everything I had learned when I realized how many conspiracy theories I had fallen for were clearly bullshit.
I see an Osteopath. DO’s are fully trained and liscenced doctors who go to medical school. Part of their training involves chiropractic care, and you haven’t lived until you have had a full osteopathic tuneup followed by some chiro adjustments.. I leave there feeling bullet proof and 10 ft tall.

I have seen an orthopedic surgeon, who has a strong policy of using the scalpel as an absolute last resort, in order to get MRIs and get solid diagnoses, but a DO sounds like the best pro mentioned in this thread so far. I am going to my first GP appointment in 15 years this month, and will see if he knows of any around these parts. I will suggest that my sister as well, as she is a PA, and her husband an MD, and they have been looking to find someone to help with some issues.

Yes.

It was mostly due to chipping a lot without a filter of any sort.

Nasal congestion.

Unless it's drizzling/ damp ( or straight up raining), I use a buff minimally, for the past couple years.

Cutting/ chipping dry and dead wood is very dusty and no Bueno.

I believe I paid $1,100 for my Hobbs back in 1989. Got it directly from Don at a Penn-Del meeting. I'd seen a Hobbs used at a training seminar I'd attended and had to have one. A real game changer.

It was like an alien technology!

I have scoliosis and two or three dislocated ribs. The best chiropractor I’ve seen is called an Upper Cervical Chiropractor. They adjust your neck and then the rest of your spine works into place. Also noticed improvement after we purchased a Latex foam mattress. Best sleep of my life.

My wife has been eager to get the latex foam mattress. It will be the first new thing that goes into my house.

There are good chiropractors and bad. I went to one 30 years ago with only little help, didn't go back. So glad, because a family member started going to her and got pulled into a swamp of strange mythical and mystical procedures.
Then eight years ago, I went to a different chiropractor for relentless shoulder pain. Not only did I get quick relief from the pain, he was well-versed in exercises and stretches that not only kept the pain away these years now, but also greatly improved my backpacking endurance. (That was before I ever thought of doing tree work.) Yes, he believes in his art so wanted me to keep coming back, which I didn't. I told him up front that I wanted skills to prevent future problems, not just repeated fixes.
