PGR and Flowering

So I am recommending a large application of Cambistat to a client where there is extensive construction going on. Most trees have been impacted in some way, be it root zone compaction or physical damage. The trees are currently under my care with a pretty thorough and proactive IPM program.

I’m recommending the PGR application to protect these trees from decline from construction damage. The trees are Oaks, Tulip, Magnolia, Maple, Beech, Liquidambar and Dogwoods. My question mainly applies to the flowering species like the dogs, mags and Tulip. Will we likely lose flowering following the application or is it just seed/fruit bearing periods that will be affected?

I had asked rainbow product support about seed production at one point... Asking if Cambistat would decrease speed production for trees where clients find them a nuisance. They told me it would more likely increase seed production. I don't know how that translates into flowering. Obviously I don't think that indicates a significant decrease in flowers

Increase in seed production? That’s interesting as I thought it was the opposite with PGRs.

Is it the particular ai in Cambistat that causes this?

Cambistat blocks gibberellins - flowering is partly controlled by this hormone, but I think moreso cytokinin and auxin (but that is species dependent)

Throwing off that balance could go either way I'd guess. I don't remember which tree species I asked about... certainly some will react differently than others. Call Rainbow and see what they say (and let us know...).

Do not use Paclobutrazol on Dogwoods as they will over regulate and you will have dime size leaves for many years to come. Same goes for Jap Maples.
My experience has been an increase in both flower, seed, and fruit production after using Cambistat.

Good to know about the dogwoods. No Japanese maples would be considered but a few red maple and possibly Norway maple would be.

On a side note, does anyone know how to adjust rate for very small trees such as bonsai? I have been training a Kousa dogwood as one and would love to get those leaves smaller.
