Pfanner Protos

Haha, Yes I met Mark and Maaike several times during our TCC's and other climbing events. As you know they own a recreational climbing park. Very enthusiastic people that enjoy being around in the arborist climbing scene.

For what it's worth, I received some extra info on the Protos.

For the European market the Health and Safety authority’s (except UK H&S) agreed that the Protos EN 397 together with the EN 12492 chin strap is a GO.

However... UK health and safety does not agree on that.
To meet the true EN 12492 climbing helmet criteria the chin strap should be permanently/non removable fixed to the hard hat.

That is probably the reason that we can enjoy the new helmet and UK and probably US too still have to wait for a work around.

(disclaimer: This is what was told to me by a respected sales rep. Please correct me if I am wrong).

I don't think it will stay there until Christmas.

I'll try it on tomorrow at our battlefield.

Most amazing helmet.

Wore it last week on jobs.

hearing protection is so thin, you wouldn't think it would work good. It's amazingly quiet! Dense foam.

Light and the way it clamps to the head, the helmet seems to be one with the head, like I've never felt before.

The prototype I tried on at TCIA last yr was easily adjustable and fixed where you put it. I cannot comment on the current model. I will be getting one though as soon as they are available. Very comfortable and ingenious design.

The mowhawk is supposed to be yellow, and looks yellow in sunlight, but not indoors, looks gold.

I hated it. It was really, really tall, so I cut it down short, (what I showed here), but it still wasn't right.

Good thing is, it is held on by velcro.

I posted a picture to see any reaction and Oroboros nailed it. Yup, looks Gay with that color.

Don't worry, I think I have it fixed now.

I thought my Kask is fast and decent.

The protos isn't as fast if you need to really adjust it; say when you wear it with a bare head, then the next day use a thin face mask with cold weather.

Like today, I wore a mask and the protos once flipped down in "clamp mode" was a little too tight. If I wanted to adjust that, I would have to take it off, and move two adjustment bands.

But, the protos definitely hugs your head like no other arborist helmet and is very comfortable.

On and off (lose and tight) is accomplished by the flip of a big tab in the back. easy to find and do.

Flip the tab up to loose to take off helmet. Flip to tight when you want the helmet to stay on.

Decent chin strap too. I have the arborist one.

Hey I saw a Mohawk just like that in last year's gay pride parade.

So did you have a gay ol' time? I think some things are better left unsaid.

Anyone know the deal on the arborist version?
I'm ready to just buy the forestry version and a strap.

I'm a little gun-shy to say given all the previous release dates....but, i am told they will be shipping around August having now passed the certification.

Don't hold me to it!

Trev, thx for the reply.. It had been awhile since I've heard anything. I was starting to think they were never coming out. even a rumor of this summer is enough for me to hold out a little longer:)
