Anybody had a chance to play with the new pfanner protos helmet system? Trying to work a new helmet into the budget and I was thinking that the face shield and muffs would be great for removals where you are running saws constantly (I'll stick with my vertex for pruning jobs but I'm getting sick of spitting out chips all day during a big removal).

Call Luke at TreeStuff.com.

He brought one to the IN TCC this last weekend, & then gave it away to the winner of the prelim's.

I tried it on. It was comfy. It seemed to sit down on my head further that I expected (that's a good thing). The facee shield was nice.

I think Luke indicated that they may not be available in the US until March ? Call Luke.

Hard to believe he was "allowed" to give one away since it's not "ready" for the US yet.

Maybe he wasn't supposed to, but that was cool he did.

[/ QUOTE ]Not ready anywhere period. We (the Euro's) are also 'on hold'. Something to do with the testing facility not being ready for the sort of tests Pfanner wanted to be thrown at the helmet.

I don't think it will stay there until Christmas.

I'll try it on tomorrow at our battlefield.

It is in Germany and the Netherlands.
Had it on the whole day today.
I love the fit. You can adjust the back closing system up and down so you can really make it a snug fit on your head. This is the very first helmet ever that sits straight on my head.
Climbing through dense twigs you notice that there is nothing sticking out of the helmet that can get caught. The visor has no openings around it so your head is one sleek cocoon.
It comes in four colour schemes and I picked the most flashy one (orange/yellow). I think that's the best colour when you are a groundy from time to time.

That's what you get when you take a picture in dimmed light with a Samsung Rugby Smart.
It really is <font color="yellow">orange</font>/<font color="orange">yellow</font>

. And the fun part is that you don't see anything of those flashy colours during the day.
Man... That darn thing is really the most comfy hard hat with visor and ear defenders I ever owned.
In fact, it is the most comfy hard hat period.

We should have the Forestry version arrive in Australia early next week, but still no word on the Arborist version....

Treespotter, yours is a Forestry (EN 397) with a chinstrap correct?

I am under the impression the Arborist (EN 12492) one is still not released.

Theoretically you are right of course. But you know as well as I do that both helmets are the same. It's just the chin strap that is different. Arb and Forest straps have different specs.
This was the one that came with mine... So tell me, is that the correct chin strap?
