Petzl williams...I put this in awakenings Too

I have noticed a few times that they havent closed properly during change overs...but mine are getting old I put it down to the springs tiring. What life expectancy is normal for these biners in normal use..any ideas for replacements?

I use all my life support biners till they no longer work properly. I clean them as needed to ensure proper action, when that fails, retire them to other use.

I have had a couple ball lockers that would hang up even when fairly new... so had to downgrade them.

Here's a pic of the remains of a big cedrus atlantica limb that failed in our ice storm....I pruned the tree a couple years ago, wish I'd cabled the limb...

Re: Nice saws

I pretty much have given up on using the Petzl ball-locks because I work almost exclusively in conifers, and the pitch clogs them up so easily. If you sometimes are in a conifer and sometimes not, you might consider avoiding using your ball-locks in that type of tree. That may keep them working well for a much longer time.

What me , show off.....how could you say such a thing??

Ummm, that just happens to be the first Dolmar 7900 to reach the west coast..that I know of...and it is far from stock... she's turning in the neighborhood of 8-8.5 hp, and weighs 13.6 lb....with that unequaled pwr to weight, it seems like I'm superman...isntead of a shriveled old fart.

The older 10 lb Shindaiwa 488 runs nice too...it eats stock 036's for breakfast.
