Petzl Shunt used for an adjustable tether.

Wow! YOu've done wayyyy more with the Shunt than Petzl dreamed of I think :)

I get nervous seeing climbers further than arm's length from their hitch/transcender though. With a lanyard that's too long you could be put in a position where you'd have to ascend to retrieve your descender.

If I had a Shunt looking for work I'd consider using it like you've shown. If not, I think the ABR lanyard does all of that.

I'd be concerned about the Shunt and the Uni getting 'gear lock' in some configuration. What happens if both of them get jammed together?

That new Shunt-like device made for single rope is promising too!

I believe the 'shunt' is the best, better than a rope wrench, although you need to pull the cord to release it.

I use it in a number of ways, srt etc.

10mins ago i set it up on my pulley rig to use a foot ascender/force to pull the rig on 6mm line, it still held fast with a good deal of pressure.

Thanks
You know I'm a huge fan of that ABR tether.
This option is much more expensive but offers some great customization and ease of adjustment.
One idea might be to put a midline double overhand stopper knot on the tailing end to set the maximum length, thus preventing the hitch from ever getting out of reach.
