Petzl Sequoia Bridge Webbing

Has anyone with the Petzl Sequoia seen the stitching between the webbing layers of the bridge come out? It doesn't seem like too much of a safety issue as the webbing is in fine condition. Please let me know your thoughts.

If the stitching is breaking its the first sign that the bridge has started to wear-out. You should order a new one and replace the old on.

This is the beauty of webbing for bridges over ropes. There are some ropes used in bridges that have materials and construction that can't be inspected. This has lead to broken bridges and injuries.

It is a safety issue...its also your life. How much is that worth?

Hey Tom,

I agree with you that I love to have a bridge that is easily inspected. However, some webbing bridges can't be inspected either because they are covered by a sheath. This is the case with the Butterfly and the Treeflex. Right?

Josh,

I agree with Tom 100%. Any sign of wear that could compromise the integrity of a piece of life support should be replaced immediately. I also climb on a Sequoia and am about due for a new bridge. Mine isn't showing any flaws at this point, but I like to replace my bridge atleast once a year regardless. I figure my life is worth a bit more than the $25-30 to replace it.
Oh, and don't forget a drop of Lock-tight on the Allen screws when reinstalling them in the rings.
Hope this helps.

Tom, do you know which rope types you can't inspect visually?
I am using velocity as a bridge on my treemotion.
Haven't heard anything bad about that, but eager to hear,
if anyone have heard some bad news?

Butterfly have a sheeth over the webbing, which you
Can slide aside to inspect.

The ropes that we use for climbing where the outer fibers are the strength and support and the inner fibers are basically there to keep the rope round are a good choice.

It seems like the bridge failures are coming from ropes that have their strength in the inner fibers. These ropes also seem to be in the group that I call 'high tech' fibers. Sticking with polyester is my choice.

One of the guys at work had this very thing happen to his Sequioa bridge. A new one was ordered and it was replaced. Cheap insurance.

The newer BF bridge webbing is covered in a very durable, tight woven cover. I hadnt even thought about it until you brought it up. There is no way to inspect the inner webbing.

I have burned through four bridges so far on my sequoia. My lastest replacement I added a small Mammut sling as a backup. That sling does not take any weight...just simply the for more peace of mind.

bridge is high wear replace often.

now.....wonder about replacing those rings....

I'm on my fourth or fifth replacement bridge on my sequoia as well. The last two I've had did not last nearly as long before the stitching broke. I have also wondered about replacing the rings, the webbing connection to my right leg strap is starting to wear. That is the side I hang my handsaw on and I think it has grazed over it a couple times though I can't recall it ever happening. I'll get a picture of it but either way it's time for a new harness, I'm thinking of giving the ergo a try.
