Petzl-metal sleeve ball lock

Petzl had prototype samples of a new ball lock biner. The sleeve is made from aluminum instead of plastic. The indent for the ball isn't as deep and is wider. More like a saucer instead of a bowl. The ball is a bit bigger too. I didn't ask when they expected to have them on the market. The sleeve is knurled but not as much as the Triact style.

any chance they give out free samples? sure would like to say that my first personal biner was a "just on the market" item

The ones that I saw had a manufacture date of 9-??-05 so they are still in the beginning of protoytyping. when I get home I'm going to get hold of a friend of mine who is a Petzl industrial rep to get the lowdown.

I'm glad they are making those changes. I never liked the plastic and the small ball/ finger dip hurt my fingers to use, especially when cold. not that its a big deal, but its nice to have changes for the better
