Petzl gold screw ring on sequoia

i am wondering why Petzl doesnt sell replacement rings for their sequoia saddle? Whats the big idea on selling the ring but cant attach the webbing without first unstitching it then stitching it back up? curious, very curious...

Did they stop making the rings with the captive retainer? You should be able to unscrew the black retainer with the torx wrench that came with the saddle.... I had issues with mine, and stripped the screw head. I also couldn't get a replacement. I got pissed when they wanted me to ship my only saddle to them so they could replace the ring for me. Why sell a product that you are suppose to be able to disassemble and not sell replacement components? They give you the wrench with instructions to adjust the saddle and replace the bridge your self, but you have to send it to them to get a new gold ring?
I just bought 2 stainless shackles for the tree austria and used those instead (yes against manufacture warranty)

The ring itself isnt certified (and thats a big issue in EU somehow ;), only as part of the sequoia, so they dare not to sell it for itself. I think its not even allowed if they would sell it as PPE, but hey, they just could call it an accessory part, hehe.

Serious, I think they know that some people would use it in ways not usual for it, and not only as a replacement on their sequioa. I think so too, as I would myself! ;D

Too sad anyway,I dont like shackles very much!

Yeah but that connecto is way too big and clumsy to work with.

I got two rings laying around in the shed, both with broken nut heads....and petzl don't want to provide new screws !

Just like some others I replaced them with stainless shackles.
My gear supllier told me if I wanted a new pair of rings without sending my harness over to petzl that was possible, just buy a new sequoia harness and trow everything but the rings away ;-)

Because the rings on the saddle are together strong enough to hold a climbers weight, a single ring will probably never meet the working load we requie in treework.

But Petzl sure know what they are doing en they work hard on keepin us safe on rope, just respect that, even with this strange policy about these rings. Can't see why stainless shackles (unless properly fit) would be not good, they sure are stronger and more durable compared to the china made torqs screwheads on the rings ;-)

Climb safe

treestyler, cant you find screws that will fit the thread of the ring? surely you could. N e ways it would be cool to see a ligered out sequoia! i woindered if anybody has done that yet...

Tread isn't a problem, but the head of the screw is somewhat different compared to what they have around in hardware stores ;-)

Just didn't put to much effort in finding the right screws...just screw it and go with some stainless steel hardware was my idea :-)

What do you mean with ligered out ? Don't understand the meaning of the words.....

Climb safe

Conecto too big and clumsy????

How so?

It is about half the size of the petzl one.

Like a chunkier version of the ringS that goes on the bridge, or a dmm anchor ring.

It is used in the same purpose as the sequoia on the stein vega harness.

i meant that if any body ever put rigging plate where the rings would go and install a rope bridge, like the ergo has. idk if its even possible for the sequoia saddle.

I didn't tried a rigging plate on it, but it will be a hard struggle to get it in and you will have to cut away some here and there and that's not what you want on a saddle ;-)

The connecto is just way too big for it's size. But that's only my opinion.
Can't see where I would ever use a connecto in my system.....

Got to ask petzl again for some new ones and try to get it delivered to my arb supplier ;-)

Hey Tom & Climberjunkieee, treegear is in Australia.
A long way from europe and the us, where most the product has to come from. The costs of shipping everything 1/2 way round the world, import duties, taxes, distributors all taking their clip doesn't help. And we are the best value one here!

Not New Zealand? You're on the "bigger island"? Pretty much all the same anyway, all down under and upside down, right?

Ok, just trying your Aussie patience, good thing I live a LONG distance from you right now. Just kidding, great country, great continent, great people but damn expensive as you well know.
