Petzl \'Caritool\' Thanks TOM!
The other day Tom mentioned this device as coming out soon and now I have some to use myself.
For me this is an upgrade from the Black Diamond plastic flat back biner.
I use this directly on my saddle to hang my chain saw from.
I use Fresco's saw lanyard quick attach system. The saw lanyard is attached with a non-locking biner and the saw is hung from my saddle on the ring closest to the handle of the saw.
I take the gate out of the Petzl caritool so when I want to hang my saw I can do this with one hand and have the saw hanging tight up against my body. Then when I want to make a cut I simply lift the saw out of the biner, cut and then I can put it back, all with true one hand operation. Sorta like drawing your pistol 'quick draw'.
For me this one handedness is essential, I can use my other hand to hold what I am cutting or to hold me/my body in position for cutting.
I know the industry frowns on one handed saw use but I consider this directive to be without meaning to me. I cannot conceive of only using my 020t with both hands and I know it also is irrelevent to many climbers in the field.
The beauty of this new plastic biner is the tang incorporated into the flat back- this captivates the biner to the webbing of my saddle and prevents it from working loose when taking the saw on and off. The old Black Diamond biner I had to drill holes through and sew it to my saddle- no more.
Thanks Tom for the heads up
