Pantin foot ascender

I purchased this device about 9 months ago and love it but there is one problem I have with it and I was wondering if anyone else has this happen to them? And if so have you found a way to correct this?

When I am bringing my foot up to take another step my climbing rope will slip out of the ascender and I will have to bend over and refix the rope to the ascender. I figure that part of the problem is from lifting my foot on an angle and being the ascender is so small it doesn't hold the rope in place very well.

I have considered putting a webbing sling around my leg with a scall clip or something to keep the line flowing straight at the ascender as apposed to an angle.

It happens to me too. Mostly it is a technique issue. You can 'lock' the system by slipping a small 'biner through one of the holes in the Pantin frame. Some guys have riveted straps through those existing holes and set things up to lock a strap around the rope-More trouble than I am interested in-The device stays on well when I behave myself and don't wave that foot wildly. The goofy thing is-I have trouble dumping the rope intentionally without using my hand.

The Pantine is a nifty little rope grab. As most people that have used the device have no doubt learned its indiosyncrocies. Number one: the ankle strap blowing out, easily fixed with a few stitches of thread. And then number two: the rope sliping past the cam. When unintentionally done it can prove a real inconvienence, but paying close attention to how it happens can actually give a person good control over it. In fact, with a little bit of practice you can learn how to enguage and disenguage the rope without using the hands. Though there needs to be some tension on the line in order to be able to do so.

Some people have totally given up on using the device shortly after experiencing either idiosyncrocy. However, after I learned to overcome them the Pantine proved to live up to its function and design. A great gadget in my book.

I'll throw a mini biner on it tomorrow for this double dual leader 85' ash tree that I have to put 2 cables in. Hopefully this will resolve the problem. Thanks for the tips.

Jerry is spot on, I never have had the footstrap blow out. Stepping off the line without using your hands is very useful, I have never tried hooking it back without my hands.

I havent stepped out accidentally in the last coupla years, technique is very important.

I have had that same problem. I need to watch it more closely like G. Beranek said and then I think I can manipulate it to my advantage. It has only come off the rope unintentionally a few times.

It is a very recent gear addition for me but I have found it to be a tremendous help in getting up the rope...well worth the money.

To remove the pantin without using your hand just move your foot like you have stepped on a bee! The quick up and backwards movement should do it.
