exactly what i've been rechecking this thread every now and then to hopefully read about.

everyone keeps saying they learned from this and I wondered learned what, simply that a skilled person can get smashed or killed?

we all know this and it is good to get reminded of this time to time (not that i want to see anyone get hurt to prove this).

I didn't want to ask anything because i was worried that I might not word it sensitive enough and might be taken the wrong way.

If you are ever comfortable with explaining what mistake or go into greater detail, I'd love to hear so that I and others could learn more from this.

Those nerves do grow back, I've known several people with BellsPauzy (sp?) which a virus eats away the nerves and paralizes a side of the face or body part, but slowly they can grow back and the tissue becomes active again.

I will say a prayer or two for your recovery.

Here is a lesson you can take away from this.

Keith knew the top was broken, and assumed it was fine. The fact that he didn't take the time to check the limb properly or even secure it, nearly cost him his life, ...but may have cost his career. This is the lesson we all need to learn, Yes we can get hurt or killed, we need to slow down, and Complacency Complacency Complacency.

Again, Keith my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Stay Strong

Riggs et al... Sorry for the delay in responding. I am authoring a piece about the entire accident and up to now. Thanks so much for the love, it means a lot. More to come I promise. Dan- thats why I work with you.

what i have learned from this post is that it is extremely hard to determine the integrity of a broken section of tree.
i have done a lot of storm damage pruning this summer and have seen broken branches that look "solid enough" tear out when i cut the branch its resting on.
the scenario of broken tops is one of the reasons i invested in a 9600lb winch. attach a pull line to the broken top, hook up the winch, and let the winch rip it out. if you don't have winch, use a truck. if you can't get your truck in there, use a come-along.

I am very sorry you got hurt. From working with you, I can say for sure you always worked thoughtfully and carefully. I pray that God will give you a full recovery and the grace to get through the down times without depression. I think you have a talent and intellect to write, do safety lectures, and teach. I read your article on climbing equipment, and it was very well written. Everybody knows Poteet Tree Service would not be TCIA certified today had it not been for your efforts. As your former employer, I would certainly be glad to recommend you in any related area. Whatever you decide to do, I am confident this terrible experience will make you a better man, and after all, isn't that what it's all about. Linda, Ben and Zack send their best wishes and prayers.

this has nothing to do with Tmw or his Ez followers . I have seen many guys get hurt . trust me . I grew up in an area that when you got hurt , people cried and Laughed . I know many people who can not do tree work any more . Boo f**ing who . When we see these people they know why they are what they are , and what happened happened . Every thing happens for a reason , Ez flow don't know , how could he . TMW , he don't want to know , God , has his plan . Me , I want to know . Was it the bore cut that made the tree fail ? (yeah thats where I'm going) This is a guy who has been doing tree work since he was a kid , asking this , asking you . What happened ? Come on one liner Ez , what happened ? you couldn't even guess . You guys only want to talk about the homeowners . A real professional tree man had a tree fail . Let's not talk about it , let's just praise God , and wait till the next homeowner does it and will take it out on him .
Pancake I hope all works out well with you and your family , if there is a beef and beer (bore) let me know .

Keith, I'm glad to hear that you're writing a piece about the way that you got hurt. Many people have questions about the accident that I'm sure we can learn from.

Will the article be in the TCIA mag?

Here is what is killing me , and no offence to you Pancake . I have had a problem with the bore cut since " whenever" Personally I think it is a joke . A not funny one if you care to ask . Pancake said this...

" The last thing I needed was a ton of critizim and speculation. I think now I'm ready to have conversations with arborists around the world about this accident, hopefully keeping one or more safe and learning more myself about it. I love this industry and the people in it, and I miss the buzz. Peace-out."

I don't think your ready , people here still care about you more than what happened . If you stated that you are ready to have conversations about this accident , than let's hear it , enough of these cyber hugs . Let's talk about the bore cut and the tree that smashed you.

If you want to learn remember this , don't f with a tree that has been f'd with all ready . This accident shouldn't have happened but it did , over confident or over educated , doesn't matter . Is this a Hallmark card post ?

I have to wait until a magazine comes out to hear how you bore cut a hazard tree and it fell on you ? after this thread ? What was up with the post than ? I've dropped alot of trees in my day , out of respect I'm asking how it happened . That is a fair question to your post .

Mostlikly these 3 combined.

I would have to agree with you on this one Riggs. I always thought (stupid) and laughed my arse off when I see someone bore cut. The other rib tickler is the clown lining up his so called gun sight. WTF? Are we hunting? What happens when you have to run a saw without a black line on it? Guess that shoulder line up is way too hard to figure out?

What's so funny about the bore cut. It gives you time to set up the perfect hinge thickness, shut down the saw if your in a traffic area and double check that the area is clear. Then time the drop. Once you start a standard back cut you have lost control to a degree. And it was developed to stop barberchairing.

works excellent to stop barberchairing on heavy leaners.

I also like to use it on simply very large diameters. on big diameters, if i started in the back of the tree cutting, my cut may not end up at the correct level to the notch cut; if the saw was a little dull or not cutting perfect. But boring in and cutting up to my hinge wood first, I can get it right from the start.

Bore cut definitely has it's place.

Keith, sorry to hear about the accident. Best wishes for a speedy recovery--although it seems that 'recovery' will be learning new ways of doing just about everything.

Like Riggs, I am curious to learn the details of exactly what happened, why, and how.

What do you mean by 'shoulder line up'?

Ya, in a chatroom.

Maybe this should be started on its on post.

I can't believe we are arguing about bore cuts.

We argue about some stupid stuff on here sometimes, but it just blows my mind that there are actually tree fellers out there that are against bore cutting.

I can't believe this...

Ridiculous.

no... I don't know, it's so ridiculous that I don't think I even want to join in this one....

X, I was just shootin off, SORRY I just couldn't resist. I like longer bars and razor chains. I have and will continue to use a bore cut as I deem nesersary. It all comes down to personal choice. A sharp chain and a stud saw will do wonders/ kinda like t5hat fancy K-Boom of yours. I was busted up bad when I was 23 from a barber- chair. Another day another story, Later Folks and yes Pancake gettin busted up sucks, my hats off to ya and sound like a lotta folks @ the BUZZ are right beside ya.

oh, good to know.

yeah, maybe we could start a thread in awakenings called; tell us your old injuries or near-misses from the past.
